Calcutta
The calcutta is an optional event that increases audience participation. At the beginning of the rodeo teams enter the arena during the grand entry, and immediately following spectators are able to "place bids" through auction to purchase a team for the day, highest bid wins that team. All monies generated in the calcutta are grouped. 10% is taken off the top, and goes towards the Host Committee; an additional 10% goes towards the MRRA. Person(s) whom purchased the teams that ended the day with the top 4 placing's of points win the remaining money. The remaining 80% is paid out at 40% for a team placing first, 30% for a second placing team, 20% for a third place, and 10% to the fourth place.
Steer Mugging
A four person team mounted on horseback. A herd of yearlings are held behind the line. Three riders shall act as herd holders. When the fourth rider approaches the line, the announcer will call a number which has been drawn for them. Roper must cut his/her numbered animal from the herd, drive it across the line, and proceed to rope and mug it to the ground. Any three legs must be tied in a cross bow fashion. Time will stop once the competitors and all ropes are clear from the steer. The steer must remain tied for at least six seconds. There is a three minute time limit.
Team Doctoring
A four person team mounted on horseback. A herd of numbered yearlings is behind a line, while three riders shall act as herd holders. As the fourth rider approaches the line the announcer will call a number which has been drawn for them. The roper cuts their numbered animal out of the herd, drives it across the line and proceeds to rope it. The animal will be headed and heeled then put down on its side. When the steer is on its side with all four feet pointing in the same direction, a member then simulates doctoring the steer by marking the animals head. Time stops when the animal has been marked. There is a two minute time limit.
Team Branding
A four person team made up of one roper, two flankers, and one brander. Two teams run at the same time. The Roper must enter the herd of calves and rope two and drag them across the line to the branding pot. The two flankers may not touch the calf until it has been dragged across the line. The calf is flanked then branded after it is flat on its side in the proper branding position. Time stops when two calves have been successfully branded, and the iron is returned to the branding pot. There is a three minute time limit.
Wild Cow Milking
A four person team is mounted on horseback. Team will be let into the arena but must stay behind the time line. The cow is released from the opposite end of the arena. Catch as catch can but the cow's head must pass through the loop or horn, or half head catch. Once caught the team must secure the cow on foot while one member milks her. The milker then must run to the judge’s circle with enough milk to pour out in five seconds. Time stops when the milker is in the judge’s circle and the rope(s) are clear from the cow. There is a two minute time limit.
Saddle Horse Race
This event will run with multiple teams at a time - depending on arena size and number of participating teams. This is a four person, timed event. One member on horseback (the rider), one horse holder, and two ground crew. The rider and the ground crew will line up behind the start line, while the forth member holds the horse at the other end of the arena. Horse holders will receive a signal from the judge to release their horses. After horses are released and the holders are on the fence, the other judge will start the event. The rider will then ride forth and rope their own teams horse, once roped, the horse will be lead back to the ground crew behind the start line. At this point the rider will drop the rope, and move to a neutral spot in the arena, not hindering or helping any team with their presence. The rider at all times must remain mounted. The ground crew can begin saddling once the rider releases the horse. The horse must be saddled in a "ready to work" fashion, back cinches must be used, bridles, blankets etc... Hackamores are allowed. Once the horse is saddled, a member must ride from behind the start line, across the arena to the finish line at the other end. Once horse & rider are across their time will stop. There is a three minute time limit.
Ranch Bronc Ride
One team member must ride a bronc for 8 seconds. "Ride as ride can" to remain on the bronc. Judges score the ride based on the rider's & the horse's ability.
Wild Horse Race
Four person team, one member will be mounted. Horses are drawn for teams. The Team is given the lead line from a wild horse. Time starts when the gate opens and horse is clear of the chute. The anchor, on horseback will be holding the lead rope while the other three team members proceed to saddle the wild horse, mount and ride across the arena to the finish line. The rider must ride unassisted with the lead line in hand. This is a timed event. There is a three minute time limit.
Barrel Racing
Ladies, Juniors, and Pee Wee's ride in a cloverleaf pattern around 3 barrels. Ladies Barrel Racing must be run on a horse ridden by a female. Junior and Pee Wee racers can be male or female. A five second penalty will be added for each knocked down barrel. Time begins and ends when any part of the horse crosses the score line.
Goat Tying
Contestant will be mounted on horse back and ride down to the tethered goat. Rider must then dismount, throw the goat by hand and tie any three feet securely with a leather thong or piggin string. Time starts when any part of the horse crosses the start line and will stop when the contestant signals completion of the tie by releasing the string. Goat must stay tied for five seconds. Ladies Goat Tying is done by females, Junior Goat Tying may be done by females or male, and Pee Wee’s may move up to compete with the Juniors.
